Álvaro Llorente began his musical training at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música Teresa Berganza de Madrid, continuing his studies at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco - Musikene with maestros Asier Polo and Damián Martínez. He also received lessons from numerous other cellists such as Amit Peled, Enrico Dindo, Maximilian Hornung, Gustav Rivinius and Claudio Bohórquez, among others. He was distinguished at the Ciudad de San Sebastián International Competition with the prize for chamber music, a field in which he has worked with teachers such as Andoni Mercero, Josep María Colom, Anthony Pay and Mikhail Kopelman, as well as with members of the Casals, Quiroga and Enesco quartets.
His musical activity has led him to play in numerous music halls throughout Spain, both with orchestra and chamber ensembles, as well as touring Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen) and the United States (New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Newport), sharing the stage with musicians of the stature of Alessio Bax, Asier Polo, Lina Tur Bonet, Leticia Moreno, Daniel del Pino and David Quiggle. In 2011 he made his debut as soloist at the Auditorio Nacional under the baton of Sebastián Mariné with the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he was cello principal from 2010 to 2017.
It is worth mentioning his involvement with contemporary music, as well as his relationship with other artistic disciplines, forming part of various projects and ensembles with which he has performed at the Festival de Arte Sacro de la Comunidad de Madrid, the INAEM MusaE cycle, the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Almagro, the Teatro de la Abadía de Madrid, the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the WiZink Center.
He combines his concert life with an intense pedagogical work, a field in which he has worked with renowned pedagogues such as María Casado, Arantza López, Eulàlia Subirá and Carey Beth Hockett. He is co-founder of the Centro para la Pedagogía de los Instrumentos de Cuerda (CEPIC), an institution with which he has invited many renowned teachers from all over the world. He has taught cello at various conservatories in the Comunidad de Madrid, winning his permanent position in 2023.
