Violin and viola pedagogy
CHO-LIANG LIN
This session with the great violinist and teacher Cho-Liang Lin explores the pedagogical approach of his own teacher and mentor Dorothy DeLay, focusing on the principles and methods that shaped her approach to violin pedagogy. Topics may include psychological aspects of practice and performance, posture and physical setup, right-hand and left-hand technique, sound production, intonation, musical interpretation, and communication with students.
The presentation highlights how these elements functioned within her teaching approach and contributed to a distinctive and influential pedagogical style that helped shape generations of violinists, including Itzhak Perlman, Gil Shaham, Midori, Sarah Chang, Cho-Liang Lin himself and concertmasters of the main North American orchestras.
Participants are encouraged to have their instruments at hand and are invited to ask questions, which will enrich our collaborative learning environment.
This workshop is for violin and viola teachers, advanced students with an interest in pedagogy, as well as anybody interested in its content.
On the day after the workshop at 9 a.m. (CEST), participants will receive private access to watch the recording during the next week, until Monday 12 October at 9 a.m. (CEST). This access is protected with password and IP identification.
To obtain a certificate of attendance it is necessary to attend the workshop live and to be in front of the active camera for at least 80% of the total time.
